25 Years of Raising Capable Kids: Now We're Sharing What Worked

Every episode explores what we've discovered works: blending structured academics with real-world skills and the kinds of learning that ignite your child's curiosity. We've made plenty of mistakes along the way, and we're sharing those lessons so you don't have to figure it all out alone.
Episode One: Finding Their Passions & The Light Bulb Moment
Our first episode digs into passion-based learning—the idea that what your kids already care about can become the foundation for real education.
We talk about how we discovered this approach while watching our own children light up when pursuing their interests. One kid built architectural models for months. Another devoured books about mythology. Instead of treating these as distractions from "real learning," we leaned in. We asked questions. We connected those interests to history, mathematics, writing, and practical skills they didn't even realize they were developing.
A love of baking becomes a mathematics and chemistry lesson. A passion for storytelling develops into strong writing skills. We share honest moments about when this approach worked brilliantly and when we had to adjust because our kids' interests shifted (which they do, and that's completely fine).
What stands out in this episode is how family involvement transforms learning. We discuss creating an environment where your child feels safe exploring ideas—where dinner conversations about their interests don't feel like interrogations. That closeness helps you understand what genuinely fascinates them.
